brass Lessons in Bradenton
& Lakewood Ranch, FL

Brass instruments have a power and presence unlike anything else in music — and mastering one is a deeply rewarding achievement.

At Premier Music Academy, our private brass lessons cover trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba, and baritone/euphonium for students of all ages across Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, and Manatee County.

Our instructors bring both performance experience and genuine teaching skill to every lesson, guiding students through the fundamentals of embouchure development, breath support and air column control, tone quality, range development, and articulation. Whether your student is just starting in middle school band, preparing for a competitive audition, or an adult who wants to revisit the horn they played in high school, Premier’s brass instruction is personalized, progressive, and genuinely effective.

WHAT TO EXPECT

your first lesson

Your first brass lesson focuses on the physical fundamentals: how to form a proper embouchure (the position and tension of your lips on the mouthpiece), how to produce your first clear tone, correct posture and instrument holding position, and how to start building the lung capacity and breath control that all brass playing depends on.

developing skills

Over your first weeks, you will begin producing a reliable, centered tone, learning to move between valves or slide positions fluidly, and reading basic notation. Scales and long-tone exercises build the muscle memory and ear training that carry students forward rapidly.

goal focused

Intermediate and advanced students work on extending their upper range, developing a singing legato style, dynamic control, vibrato, and style-specific technique for jazz, orchestral, or marching band settings. Students preparing for band placement tests, solo and ensemble competition, or conservatory auditions receive focused, strategic coaching.

LESSONS & SCHEDULING

flexible lessons built around your schedule.

Our brass lessons are available in 30, 45, and 60-minute formats — designed to fit the age, experience level, and goals of each student. Most beginners start with 30-minute sessions and progress to longer lessons as their skills develop. We recommend 60-minute lessons for intermediate and advanced students working toward performance or audition goals.

We’re open Monday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM at both our North Lakewood Ranch and East Bradenton locations. Flexible rescheduling and a friendly enrollment process make it easy to get started and keep going.

FAQ

Trumpet and trombone are typically the most accessible starting instruments for new brass students. Both have a straightforward approach to tone production and are widely taught in school band programs. French horn is beautiful but has a steeper early learning curve.

We recommend renting before buying for new students — especially for school-age students whose instrument needs may change as they develop. We can advise on reputable rental options and what to look for in a quality student instrument.

Absolutely. Private lessons are one of the most effective ways to accelerate progress in school band. We work directly on the music students are playing in their school ensemble alongside the fundamental technique that makes everything easier.

Most students produce a clear, consistent tone within the first 4-6 weeks with regular practice. The embouchure is a muscle — it strengthens with consistent use. Daily practice, even 10-15 minutes, makes an enormous difference in early development.

Yes. Our instructors are experienced in both classical/concert band styles and jazz. If your goal is playing in a jazz ensemble, big band, or exploring improvisation on brass, we have the expertise to guide you there.
