ukulele Lessons in Bradenton
& Lakewood Ranch, FL

The ukulele is one of the most joyful, accessible, and genuinely fun instruments in the world

at Premier Music Academy, we teach it with the same quality instruction we bring to every instrument on our roster. Our private ukulele lessons are available at both our North Lakewood Ranch and East Bradenton locations for students of all ages, from young children picking up their first instrument to adults who want something approachable, portable, and deeply enjoyable.

— and Our instructors cover proper strumming technique, chord shapes, fingerpicking patterns, rhythm and timing, ear training, and music theory — building a real musical foundation while keeping every lesson fun and rewarding. The ukulele is a wonderful starting point for younger students and a genuinely satisfying standalone instrument for players of all ages. Many of our ukulele students are surprised by just how much musical depth this little instrument holds.

WHAT TO EXPECT

your first lesson

Your first lesson starts with the basics: how to hold the ukulele correctly, how to tune it (and keep it in tune), your first two or three chords, and a simple strumming pattern that lets you play a real song by the end of the lesson. For most students, that first real song arrives faster than expected — and that early win is a powerful motivator.

developing skills

From there, lessons build toward a wider chord vocabulary, smoother transitions, fingerpicking techniques, and an understanding of basic music theory that opens up more advanced playing. Students who want to sing while they play will work on coordinating strumming with their voice — a skill that develops naturally with consistent practice.

goal focused

Advanced ukulele students explore melodic soloing, jazz chord voicings, percussion techniques, and advanced fingerpicking arrangements. The ukulele’s ceiling is much higher than most people expect.

FAQ

Soprano ukulele is the most common starting size and works well for most children and adults. Concerts and tenors are slightly larger and suit older students or those with larger hands. We’ll advise you on sizing at your first consultation.

It’s one of the best. The nylon strings are gentle on small fingers, the instrument is lightweight and easy to hold, and students can play real songs within the first few lessons. Many of our youngest students start on ukulele and later transition to guitar or another instrument.

Both, and that’s what makes it wonderful. It is very accessible as a starting point, but it is also a genuinely serious instrument with a rich musical tradition and significant technical depth. World-class ukulele players like Jake Shimabukuro have taken the instrument to extraordinary heights.

Yes — many foundational skills transfer directly. Chord shapes, strumming patterns, ear training, and music reading all carry over when a student transitions from ukulele to guitar. It’s a wonderful on-ramp.

A quality beginner ukulele starts around $50-80. We can recommend specific brands and models that offer great sound and playability at an accessible price point. We’d rather you invest in a decent instrument from the start than struggle with a poor-quality one.
